Desc: Unusual in Every Way: Directed by Don Barnard, Yolanda Papini-Pollock. An unusual tale of struggle, friendship, hope and inspiration. Don Barnard is an indigenous man living with autism and disabilities. He has lived through rough times. He was born to a dysfunctional family and suffered parental abuse and neglect. He was placed in over 30 foster homes and was even homeless for a while. Systemic racism, his disabilities and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder took a toll on his life. He was married and divorced twice and also lost access to his children. He is convinced that racism is the main cause for the fact that his children were taken from him. Despite being a talented photographer, he is not able to manage stressful situations productively and he spends days struggling with symptoms of depression and anxiety. Don meets Solly Dreman, a renowned professor from Israel and they form a unique friendship. Professor Dreman invites Don to visit him in Israel and tries to help him to establish a business. He showers him with gifts and provides him with needed emotional support. Their friendship is the closest notion of family that Don ever experienced. While in Israel Don meets many of Solly's friends. Their unique friendship and the lessons he learned in Israel are an inspiration for a struggling man and for a people. Israel is a country that was founded by Holocust survivors and refugees. Her citizens also suffer from compound post trauma due to continued war and terrorism, yet the country is thriving. Don returns to Canada and decides to make a film about his experiences and the lessons he learned.
